Software Developer Indianapolis, IN

We are looking for a skilled and crafty software developer to help us improve diagnostic lab workflow.  We are looking for someone who is

A programmer

We are currently coding in C#, but our group has also built products in Delphi, C++, and Scheme. We are more interested in your understanding of programming language concepts than skill with any language du jour. Do you understand continuations? Do you know the difference between a static and dynamic type system? Can you wield first-class procedures? Have you implemented a compiler or a metacircular interpreter? Do you wish for hygienic macros when hacking Erlang?

A problem solver

Have you struggled with and tried solving tough interaction design problems? Do you recognize when you are wandering into an O(n2) algorithm and stop to find a O(n) or O(nlogn) solution if the data set size warrants it? Do you enjoy problems hard enough that you need to sketch with code just to explore the problem space? Have you run into problems that you can't solve yet they haunt you until you find a solution years later in a seemingly-unrelated problem domain? Do you try to write up your solutions only to realize mid-paper that there's a better way, and you stop to go explore it?

A team player

Do you challenge your peers to do better? Do you accept direct and constructive criticism of your own work? Do you solve problems with another person? Have you pair programmed both at the keyboard and next to the keyboard? Are you confident but also humble? Do you pitch in when help is needed even if the work is yucky because you want to ship? Have you had a quarrel with your spouse, a flat tire coming into work, and still been able to help your coworker track down that bug to keep validation moving?

A passionate engineer

Do you want to build software that makes the world better? Are you willing to challenge the status quo to do that? Have you ever fought and taken lumps for something you believe is right? Does you passion translate into the code you write?

A learner

Do you get excited tackling new challenges? Do you enjoy researching new subjects and dig obsessively until you understand the last details of the domain? Do you like asking questions of and learning from your peers?

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science
  • Significant software project work
